Reported Liverpool target Youri Tielemans is rumoured to be close to a move to French club AS Monaco, according to The Sun.

Tielemans is a target for a host of big clubs across Europe and Liverpool are one of the teams chasing the youngster for his signature. But now, it appears as though the Reds might have to switch their attention to other targets as Tielemans looks closer to a move to Monaco.

Tielemans is also a target for Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Olympique Marseille with the clubs thought to be keen on putting down an offer for the Belgian midfielder.

Tielemans has had a wonderful season so far, having scored 18 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances for Anderlecht. Youri has been one of the most watched players, ever since he broke into Anderlecht first team at the age of just 16.

It is now believed that the player is interested in a move to Monaco, after watching youngsters like Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, Bernardo Silva and Bakayoko all sizzle under Leonardo Jardim.

Speaking in January the club’s sporting director Herman van Holsbeeck admitted that they are likely to face a struggle to hold on to their emerging star.

He said: “Actually, it’s already extraordinary that we have been able to enjoy three seasons of such talent. Tielemans is on all lists of most promising young players in Europe. We know he is followed by big clubs.”

With the future of Tielemans hanging in the air, a move in the summer looks highly likely and if the prospect of growth is what that is making Monaco an interesting option for the 19-year old, then Liverpool would be an appealing choice too without a doubt.

Jurgen Klopp is well known for his ability to work with young players and nourish them and so Tielemans would be a success at Liverpool as much as what he would be at Monaco.

Though it might trigger a transfer war between the Reds and the French club, a lot would depend on the clubs’ level of interest in the player, and also the player’s interest in the clubs.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool end up convincing Tielemans to choose Anfield over Stade Louis II.

Do you think Tielemans will join Liverpool?
