Transfer News: Liverpool beaten to Aurelien Tchouameni as Real Madrid make official announcement on Twitter
The official Twitter account of Real Madrid has officially announced the signing of Aurelien Tchouameni who, according to Liverpool Echo, has been linked with Liverpool.
The Reds were one of the teams after the 22-year-old midfielder with PSG and Manchester United also interested in his services. But it turns out that Los Galacticos have beaten the trio in this particular transfer race.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the deal stands at €80million with a further €20million in add-ons. That is a hefty price to pay for a young midfielder, but the Reds are currently engaged in a potential transfer for Darwin Nunez.
Roman quotes that the Reds are close to an agreement with SL Benfica on a transfer fee that mirrors Madrid’s offer for Tchouameni. If that is the case, then most of our fans would tell you that we are investing in the right player.
A blow for LFC?
While Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are not getting any younger, we are still pretty well covered in that department. The skipper and the Spaniard haven’t shown any signs of slowing down just yet.
With Fabinho Tavares as a number six and a reinvigorated Naby Keita keeping fit, the Reds have a strong midfield line-up already. Add to that Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott vying for playing time.
Hence, it doesn’t really come as a blow for us considering the finances involved. Otherwise, Thchouameni wouldn’t have been a shabby option to have in midfield.
