Transfer News: Manchester United signing Frenkie de Jong could mean Barcelona signing Liverpool target Raphinha
Barcelona could make a move for Liverpool transfer target Raphinha if Manchester United meet the valuation for Frenkie de Jong, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t the Express).
The Reds have been linked with a move for the Leeds United winger as Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Anfield remains up in the air. Barca, meanwhile, would be open to selling their Dutch midfielder for around £65million.
With Man United pursuing a move for de Jong, who made his name under Erik ten Hag at Ajax, Liverpool and Arsenal would have to watch their backs. And that is because Barca could use that money to sign both Raphinha and Arsenal target, Ruben Neves.
That would obviously be a headache for the Reds if they really do want the former Rennes winger. Barca, after all, are no small club.
What next for Raphinha?
We saw what happened with Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho- their pull cannot be underestimated. However, the Reds can offer Raphinha some playing time if Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah leave.
The duo has 12 months left on their contracts and there have been no signs of a renewal. This news of Barca scuppering our plans seems to be dependent on Man United’s pursuit of De Jong.
It then becomes important to note if they actually do meet Barcelona’s valuation for a player their current manager knows very well. The Netherlands international wouldn’t have been a shabby option for us.

However, Manchester United are the ones that seem to be heavily pursuing him. Our attention, right now, would be fixated on Darwin Nunez. If and when that deal is over the line, perhaps the club can look at other targets in the market- if they have any,
