Liverpool blew their chance of opening a huge lead between themselves and fifth-placed Manchester United and sixth place Arsenal thanks to a 0-0 draw against Southampton.
The Reds could have all but sealed a top-four place with a win but an insipid display, marked by a second-half penalty, which was saved, from the reliable James Milner told the story of another frustrating game at Anfield.
Southampton haven’t conceded to Liverpool this season and seem to be their bogey team but Jurgen Klopp will be frustrated at the fact that there once again was no attacker who could pierce through a disciplined Saints defence.
Liverpool now have two games left to close out the season and if they keep performing at this level, it might be tough seeing them finish fourth. The Reds still have a slender advantage over the chasing pack but it certainly is going down to the wire.
There were many frustrated Liverpool fans on Twitter that vented their anger and we share some of the best updates from the game.

Liverpool have the worst squad in the top 8, it’s not a matter of opinion this is just a fact

Thanks Arsenal for giving Liverpool the chance to squeeze in one more bottlejob before the season ends. Was worried I’d seen the last one

You can’t claim you want to see Liverpool in CL & win titles when you’ll happily excuse 19 dropped points against teams outside top 6. #LFC

It’s incredible, Liverpool just need TWO WINS against two weaker sides that have nothing to play for, and I still don’t fancy them.

Klopp deserves immense credit for what he has done with a distinctly average squad. I’m no Liverpool fan, but I do hope they qualify for UCL

At the start of Uniteds magnificent unbeaten run they were 6pts behind Liverpool. 26 matches and a Liverpool collapse later, gap closed to 5
