Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones seen training with Everton forward Anthony Gordon in Los Angeles
Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was seen training alongside Everton forward Anthony Gordon with trainer Darrius Marcellin, according to Liverpool Echo. The 21-year-old midfielder prepares to return for pre-season training on 4 July.
The Merseyside rivals were out in Los Angeles getting their work in for the start of the 2022/23 season. During his holidays, the Reds midfielder has been working hard in the United States as he joined another session last week with the Tiki Taka Soccer League.
Marcellin, their trainer, shared a post on Instagram with the caption “early work”, with both Gordon and Jones in the frame.
Next season is a big one
Jones played the first minutes for his boyhood club in an FA Cup tie in the 2018/19 season. Since then, the 21-year-old’s role in Jurgen Klopp’s side has only grown year on year. Now, the young midfielder has established himself in Liverpool’s squad.
Last season Jones featured in 27 games, starting 18 of them. The 21-year-old has already garnered a lot of first-team experience, featuring 74 times for the Reds.
The young midfielder has been able to make a name for himself at Anfield with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, among others, at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
Jones has carved a place for himself in the team and some fans would expect his role to become even more prominent in the coming years. For next season though, the 21-year-old will be a key member of our squad.
James Milner, Thiago and Henderson are all in their 30s. Klopp favours a high-intensity game plan. Fatigue is something that has affected the squad in recent years. Jones is the perfect player to bring in such situations.
It remains to be seen how the German boss decides to use the young midfielder going into next season, as the club seems to have given up on signing a new midfielder this summer.
