Transfer News: Liverpool willing to meet the wage demands of Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio
Liverpool are apparently one of the sides that would be willing to meet the wage demands of Real Madrid star Marco Asensio, according to Sport (Print Edition) via Paisley Gates (h/t Liverpool Echo).
Asensio, who has won three UEFA Champions League titles with Los Blancos, apparently wants between £4m-£5m in annual wages. The Reds are said to have made an offer for the 26-year-old and are willing to meet his demands.
That is the case for some other Premier League teams as well. It remains to be seen if this news turns out to be true and if it isn’t a tactic for the player to get what he wants at his current club.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs via HITC (h/t Liverpool Echo) claimed recently that the Reds have warned Ousmane Dembele’s agent for spreading rumours about the club in order to get the best deal for his client at Camp Nou.
No, thank you
Such news must, hence, be taken with a pinch of salt. It is widely believed that the Reds don’t want to sign another player this summer.
Moreover, Mohamed Salah has agreed to stay at Anfield until at least 2025. That puts to rest a lot of uncertainty we had down that flank, and Asensio would, for sure, struggle for regular starts if he comes to Anfield.
With a FIFA World Cup later this year, would he want to risk a starting berth for Spain if he doesn’t get regular club football? With Luis Diaz at his mercurial best down the left-hand side and Salah an undisputed choice down the right flank, it is hard to see the need for another winger.
Darwin Nunez would be expected to lead our line for the near future and beyond that, while Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino would also be vying for playing time. And hence, this is a signing we don’t need right now.

It would be a luxury to have someone like Asensio here but it just doesn’t make sense for both parties to get a deal across the line this summer.
