Georginio Wijnaldum could be used in a swap deal to take Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot to PSG
According to Calcio Mercato Web (h/t Liverpool Echo), PSG are interested in Liverpool target Adrien Rabiot and could use former Red Georginio Wijnaldum in a swap deal. With the Frenchman in the final year of his contract, the 27-year-old’s former club look to bring him back to the Parc des Princes.
Liverpool’s Dutch icon left the club last year after his contract expired and joined PSG. But the 31-year-old has had a hard time in Paris. The midfielder started 22 games for PSG after an underwhelming season under Mauricio Pochettino.
Rabiot is another player who hasn’t lived up to expectations since bursting onto the scene in Paris. After moving to Juventus in 2019, the 27-year-old has played 129 times for the Old Lady, scoring six goals and providing six assists.
In Merseyside, there were whispers of a possible return of Wijnaldum, but the talk seems to have died down. Rabiot is someone the Reds have looked at to reinforce the midfield this summer.
Liverpool fans will feel a move for either of them will just be symbolic. The Reds currently have Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho in their ranks. The two played the majority of last season in the Anfield side’s midfield.
Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita were rotated by Jurgen Klopp for the third spot in the middle of the park. The Guinean had one of his best seasons at the club in the previous campaign. Our captain had another solid season in midfield as the side lifted the Carabao and FA Cup titles.
Curtis Jones is one to look out for next season. Given the chances, the midfielder has the quality to slot in a position and provide backup to the other players in the squad. Harvey Elliot is coming back from an ankle injury and spectators will want to see the 19-year-old thrive like he did at the start of last season.
