The Mohamed Salah deal seems to be on hold for good now based on the latest update from the AS Roma winger’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa.
We all know how important Salah is for us and it seemed that the former Chelsea man was just a signature away from joining us. That all changed when it came to the price for the 24-year-old with Roma holding out for around £40 million (Liverpool Echo), which is almost £8 million more than what we are willing to spend.
Abbas Issa tweeted a rather cryptic message where he said:
“Sometimes, good things come to those who don’t wait too long,”

That might be a bit of a dig at us since we have taken a long time in finalising the deal or it could be for the fact that the deal is close to completion and we only took a couple of weeks to finish it off.
Either way, it has been a harrowing time for us Liverpool fans especially after the breakdown of the Virgil van Dijk transfer that has put egg on our faces. We have closed the door on the Dutch defender, at least that is what our statement said and the end of Salah’s move to Anfield could be the next bit of bad news coming.
We have also been linked with a move for Gelson Martins of Sporting Lisbon (BBC), even though he has a higher release clause of £50 million and that could be seen as a ploy to scare Roma.
The Serie A club don’t have to sell and have had a great season where they recorded their highest points tally in the competition. They are guaranteed Champions League football while we have to navigate through the qualifying rounds.
The transfer window hasn’t opened officially and we are getting pummelled and bullied by clubs and agents which isn’t going to help us in the long run.
The Kop Times Verdict
Salah would have been a great player to have thanks to his speed and wing-play. He would have provided us a second Sadio Mane-esque option on the other wing but it seems we will have to try and sign another player and fall for a Plan B, something we are getting used to a lot these days.
The only thing in our favour is the fact that Roma haven’t ruled out the sale of Salah to us and maybe, just maybe, we can work around this and finalize the deal as the window opens.
