Liverpool are amongst a number of clubs who are interested in signing Ruben Nevers of FC Porto. According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Liverpool and Chelsea are looking to sign the midfielder as he is considered one of the brightest talents in Portuguese football. However, there are no official bids submitted for the 20-year-old yet.
The A Bola report (h/t Daily Express) also claims that Porto need to sell their players and have already let go of Andre Silva to Serie A’s AC Milan for around €38m but need to raise close to €60m in the summer window.
Neves, for his part, has already captained his boyhood club Porto and has even made it to the national side. The midfielder plays a defensive role and could be the answer for our problems in the heart of the park.
It is claimed that the youngster is valued at £30m and that is a bargain considering the potential and talent he carries.
Liverpool have been in the market for a holding midfielder and with Jordan Henderson’s injury record, we cannot take a risk with the sheer number of games next season.
Naby Keita has been one of our targets in the summer but Neves wouldn’t be the worst option to have either.
A battle lies ahead for Neves

A Bola also claims that Chelsea are looking to fight it out for the 20-year-old and this is where Jurgen Klopp would have to step in if he wants to sign the defensive midfielder.
Klopp has done the same for Joel Matip, Georginio Wijnaldum and even for Marko Grujic and it seemed that he had done the same for the failed attempt of Virgil van Dijk.
Neves didn’t play a lot of games last season with only 13 appearances in the league campaign for Porto and that could help us land him given that there will be a lot of games which we need to cover next season.
We don’t believe Neves will be a priority signing for Klopp but should our targets such as Keita fail to arrive at Anfield, we could have a Portuguese youngster controlling the midfield next season.
