Alberto Moreno has struggled for game time and couldn’t displace James Milner from the side. There has been a lot of doubt surrounding his future and to top it up, Sky Sports sources report that Liverpool have in fact rejected a £11million bid from Napoli for the transfer of Alberto Moreno.
The Spanish fullback is also wanted by Sevilla in Spain and a couple of other Premier League clubs as per Sky’s reports. Although Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are not heavily reliant on Moreno as he is merely a squad player for the club, the Reds are holding out for a fee of at least £15million from the clubs that are interested in signing him.
Liverpool signed Moreno from Sevilla for £12million three years ago and want to make a profit on their investment instead of letting him go for cheaper than that price. The Spanish international was signed as a part of the Brendan Rodgers’ project three years ago, in 2014, in which the club splurged a massive sum of over £117million signing no fewer than 8 players.
Moreno has since then failed to break into Liverpool’s starting eleven at the left-back positiong, despite initially being played there under the German boss. However, since then, Klopp has preferred James Milner in that position leaving Moreno on the bench.
His lack of first team football could prompt the Spaniard to consider playing somewhere else given that he is still 24-years-old. His old club Sevilla are interested along with Napoli and a couple of Premier League clubs but Liverpool are holding out for at least £15million from his potential suitors.
The fullback has played for La Roja thrice and has accumulated 109 appearances for Liverpool so far. Moreno has also scored 3 goals for his club in that time.
Whether Moreno remains at Liverpool or decides to move on remains to be seen. But given Jurgen Klopp’s fixed starting eleven last season, the player can be assured of barely any game time. The Reds are in the market for a left-back and are interested in Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy. So Moreno’s chances of playing look even slimmer.
Moreno is also a squad player who has taken a lot of stick from the fans for mistakes on the pitch and it does look as though he is merely a backup left-back in the eyes of Jurgen Klopp.
