According to the Independent, Arsenal are prepared to sell Alex Oxdale-Chamberlain to Liverpool in a £25 million deal.
The report states that Oxdale-Chamberlain commonly known as ‘the Ox’ has grown tired of his limited role at Arsenal and has grown understandably frustrated with his lack of solid game time under Arsene Wenger. Chamberlain has not lived up to his potential of being a highly talented youngster and has failed to secure a permanent starting berth in the Gunners’ side under the Frenchman Wenger.
Arsenal have failed to secure Chamberlain’s services with a new deal at Arsenal which was reportedly on the cards and it now looks as though the player favours a move to Liverpool. Premier League champions Chelsea and Manchester City have both expressed their interest in signing the player from the Gunners, but, The Independent reports that he could most probably join Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp is a longstanding admirer of the 23-year-old and the youngster is on the German’s radar as he looks to add to his Liverpool squad going into next season. Chamberlain is on the Reds’ transfer agenda and the Gunners have opened up about the possibility of selling the player due to the new Premier League expenditure rule.
There is a growing pressure for Arsenal to reduce their wage bill as the Premier League rules state that clubs’ salary expenditure should be no more than £7 million above that of the previous year. Arsenal’s wage bill is set to balloon considering the fact that they have to renew the contracts of both their star players Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The club will thus look to save money by selling off some of their squad players like Oxdale-Chamberlain and Olivier Giroud. This could be a good transfer for Liverpool should they complete the deal given Chamberlian’s direct running assets and goal threat. He would fit in well with the Liverpool squad and offer them more options in attack.
