Liverpool to make bid for AC Milan star Ismael Bennacer owing to multiple midfield injuries
Subsequent to Thiago’s hamstring injury on Saturday against Fulham in the first league game of the campaign, Liverpool are exploring the market and are planning a bid for Ismael Bennacer of AC Milan.
CalcioMercatoWeb (h/t Liverpool Echo) claims that a formal bid of €40million should be expected soon. The 24-year-old Algerian can play in defensive as well as central midfield.
The former Arsenal youngster has impressed since his time at Milan and is growing his game from strength to strength.
The 2019 AFCON winner is a very capable left-footed player and can drift wide from deep positions to create chances. He left Arsenal’s academy to join Empoli in 2019.
Wise move from LFC?
Liverpool would benefit from signing a player of that level of versatility and potential. Bearing in mind the current injury situation, signing Bennacer would make complete sense.
Gaffer Jurgen Klopp is adamant about not making any panic signing owing to injury, but the situation demands depth in that department, in case the club is looking to compete on all fronts
Bennacer’s current contract runs down in the summer of 2024, and it also has a release clause of €50million. Liverpool would gain a decent advantage should the signing take place.
The Reds can play with Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones and Fabio Carvalho in midfield. However, that trio is still very young. The Reds’ struggled against Fulham until James Milner and Elliott came on.
