Jamie Carragher advises Liverpool against panicking this summer

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has advised the Reds not to panic in the transfer window post their draw against Fulham at the opening weekend of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Carragher does mention that most people believe Liverpool could do with an addition of a midfielder, not just to increase the numbers, but add a bit more quality in that department.

The starting midfield against Fulham consisted of two players over 30 years old (Thiago and Jordan Henderson), while Fabinho is 28. Moreover, Thiago’s injury means he now joins Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the injury list.

Despite all of that happening, Carragher says that Liverpool should not panic in the market and go for a midfielder only if the player is a right fit for the club and the squad.

The Reds’ transfer strategy under Jurgen Klopp has always been of keeping patience and getting the best possible players. They have been patient when needed to land their priority targets.

However, we knew even before this window began that Liverpool’s ageing and injury-prone midfield could be a problem for them this season. So, after replacing Sadio Mane with Darwin Nunez, the focus should have been on signing a midfielder, irrespective of injuries.

The Reds have been linked with the likes of Nicolo Barella, Matheus Nunes and Jude Bellingham, all three of whom are 25 and below in age. Knowing the quality these players can produce, it is necessary for the club to act rather than remain indecisive.

It is not a time to panic as said by Carragher, but it certainly is action time for Julian Ward and co. Unless a new midfielder comes in, we could once again be looking at the Reds shooting themselves in the foot.
