Liverpool are interested in Sheffield United star Sander Berge amidst injury concerns
According to Sky Sports reporter Gary Weaver via Sports Illustrated (h/t Liverpool.com), Liverpool have entered the race to sign Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge this summer.
The Norwegian is a central holding midfielder who has been with Sheffield United since the 2019/20 season where they finished ninth. He also has played in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
However, the next season saw them get relegated to the Championship and many assumed that given his quality, Sander Berge would be picked up by a top-flight team. He however, stayed put at Bramall Lane.
Liverpool were interested in signing the 24-year-old midfielder when he was plying his trade for Belgium side Genk. However, a move did not materialise and he chose to move to Sheffield United.
Berge has been a central figure since Sheffield United returned to the Championship and the manager expects him to be integral to his plan for the upcoming season’s objective to return to the Premier League.
“We expect more than Sander being just one of the boys high up the pitch. All round midfield.”
Due to the position of Sheffield in the Championship, Liverpool have a good chance of concluding a deal for the midfielder at a low price.
Sander Berge has the skillset of a quality midfielder and if he is available for a reasonable price, it is something we must pursue.
