Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique blasts Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo for blanking Jamie Carragher
Former Liverpool left-back Jose Enrique has given his opinion on the Cristiano Ronaldo snub to pundit Jamie Carragher ahead of the match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
“But someone that (has) played football for that long and (has made) so many appearances for Liverpool, at least you say hi out of respect.”
The incident happened during the pre-match build-up to the game with Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher on their duties. Cristiano Ronaldo came forward and greeted Gary Neville and Roy Keane and completely snubbed Jamie Carragher in the process.
This did not sit right with Liverpool supporters and the former Liverpool defender came out and said it was disrespectful of the Portuguese star in his behaviour towards Carragher.
Jamie Carragher is regarded highly by the Liverpool faithful having made 737 appearances for the club and it was apparent that the snub from the United forward was intentional.
Jamie Carragher came out on Twitter (h/t Dailymail) and while acknowledging the snub said:
“I get a custard pie for getting it right on ROnaldo from day one. The custard pie for him from Erik Ten Hag shows the manager thinks the same.”
Carragher has been vocal about Ronaldo’s role in the Manchester United team under Erik Ten Hag and argued how the Portuguese would not fit with the way the manager wants to play.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Mirror), Carragher was critical of Ronaldo’s role following the embarrassing loss of Manchester United to Brentford.
If I’m being honest, I’m not sure the manager wants Ronaldo around the place, he had to play him last week because it was so poor against Brighton. As soon as he’s got options he’s put him on the bench and in two weeks I think Ronaldo will move on,”

Clearly, the United manager showed a similar stance and left Ronaldo out of the starting line-up in the Derby clash and the Portuguese only came on the pitch in the last ten minutes of the game, showing his diluting relevance to the team.
