Team News: Confirmed Liverpool starting XI to take on Bournemouth
Liverpool welcome Bournemouth at Anfield today in what is going to be a very crucial game for Jurgen Klopp and his side. They have endured a horrible start to their campaign.
The Premier League title contenders are without a win in three games. They drew in their opening game against Fulham before playing out a 1-1 draw with a man sent off against Crystal Palace.
Their nadir of the current season came last Monday in a 2-1 derby loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford. The team selection from Klopp that day was astonishing and was rightly questioned by fans and pundits alike.
The German manager has taken his decision now, and here is the starting XI for the game against the Cherries, as confirmed on their club Twitter account.
James Milner expectedly drops out and Fabinho Tavares is included. It was a shock to see the Brazilian not start against the Red Devils in the first place. Darwin Nunez sits out for the second game in a row due to a three-day suspension after head-butting Eagles defender Joachim Andersen.
Mohamed Salah is perhaps the first name on the team sheet and along with Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Luis Diaz and Andrew Robertson are also obvious picks.
The Colombian in particular is in brilliant form this season despite the Reds’ terrible start as a team. Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain missed out on the game against Man United and they do so today as well.
The injury crisis in midfield has also forced Klopp to admit publicly that the Reds are on the lookout for a central midfielder. Bournemouth manager Scott Parker has also named his starting XI for the game against the Reds, as confirmed on their club’s Twitter account:
The Cherries are one of the three newly-promoted teams this season. The Reds simply have to win this and there will be a lot of fingers pointed at Klopp and the club for the stubbornness to sit quietly after signing just three players this summer.

A central midfielder has been the need of the hour ever since Georginio Wijnaldum left for PSG on a free transfer last summer. Surprisingly, Klopp has continued to rely on aging and/or injury prone players in the centre of the park.
