Liverpool’s summer transfer war chest is a whopping £200million according to the Mirror. Jurgen Klopp has already spent big in signing Mohamed Salah from AS Roma for £36.9million but it seems like he isn’t panicking about the lack of other signings yet.
A deal was also struck for Dominic Solanke, the fee for which will be decided by a tribunal. He has moved from Chelsea on a free transfer. These have been our signings so far and we have been frustrated over the dealings with Southampton and RB Leipzig for their players.
Virgil van Dijk seems to be the player we want the most to fix our defence but Southampton are having none of it and had stated that they would not be selling any players in the summer. Naby Keita of Leipzig is another high profile player we want to bring to the side but the Bundesliga side also have added that they don’t have to sell any players.
That should have been enough for most to hit the panic button, like we supporters already have, but Klopp and his team are fairly calm about this and aren’t worried.
An insider at Anfield was quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“There is no sense of worry or panic. Jurgen is happy with how our transfer business is being conducted. This summer was always going to be about quality rather than quantity and the manager understands that landing the kind of players he wants was always going to be about being patient.”
The transfer window only opened at the start of July and there is a lot of time before we can start losing our heads over a lack of transfers. We already have a decent base to build upon and need a couple of world-class players to take us to the next level.
Keita and Van Dijk could still be playing in the Red of Liverpool, given our transfer kitty and we should remember that the budget for the transfers could see a bit of an increase if we sell players such as Lucas Leiva and Alberto Moreno.
We need to finish better than the fourth position we did last season and with European football to play, there has to be additions to the side. A central defender and a left-back have to be high on the priority list at the moment. However, Keita seems to be a midfielder that can do a number of roles.
The fact of the matter is that there is a lot of time before the window shuts and there will be a few more players coming into the side. We have to be patient, just like Klopp, and see what actually transpires in the coming days.
