Transfer News: Liverpool are willing to pay £42 million for Moises Caicedo
Liverpool are in desperate need to reinforce their midfield before the deadline day. And they seem to have identified one in Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Merseyside club are willing to pay £42 million for the services of the 20-year-old. This comes after his current club are said to be dead against selling him this summer.
Caicedo joined the Seagulls in 2021 from the Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Belgian side Beerschot V.A. and the second half with his current side.
The midfielder made eight Premier League appearances last season, scoring one goal and assisting another. He is said to be highly regarded by Brighton manager Graham Potter.
Liverpool are currently short of options in the middle of the park. This has led to Jurgen Klopp doing a U-turn on his statement that the Reds will not be buying any player this summer. A midfielder is the need of the hour, but he should be good enough.
Caicedo is a very young and talented midfielder, with huge potential. But the 20-year-old lacks experience. And to pay such a ridiculous amount for a relatively inexperienced midfielder also does not make any sense.
It would rather be wise to go after a more experienced player. This way the quality of the midfield does not decrease and the club could still stay in the fray for all the titles. The 20-year-old could be one for the future maybe.
