Report: Liverpool among clubs interested in signing Brighton’s Moises Caicedo in January

According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, who wrote a thread on tweets on the matter, (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing talented Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo in January alongside other Premier League clubs.

The Ecuadorian midfielder who has won 24 caps for his national team to date has been imposing for the Seagulls in this campaign and has done a great job in making sure that Brighton do not miss the presence of Yves Bissouma.

Bissouma left Brighton for Spurs in the summer and this could have left an enormous void in the midfield for the Seagulls. However, the 20-year-old has taken to Premier League football like a fish to water.

Bissouma joined the Premier League club from Independiente in 2021 and was loaned out for six months to Beerschot V.A. He returned in January and has since then been a part of the squad ever since.

Caicedo has started all six games for the Seagulls this season in the Premier League even managing to score a solitary goal. The 20-year-old dropped a master class against Manchester United on the opening matchday that set the tone for the rest of the season.

Capable of playing in central midfield as well as defensive midfield, Caicedo is versatile and can offer a lot to the manager he plays for. The player was linked with an exit throughout the summer but a move never materialised.

Liverpool themselves were linked with a move for the midfield starlet but Brighton decided to keep hold of him. It has now emerged that the Reds could make an approach in January but they will not be alone.

Caicedo has a contract with Brighton until 2025 (transfermarkt) and the Seagulls will be in no rush to sell their prized asset. They are likely to hold out for big money and it remains to be seen if the Reds are ready to shell so much on a 20-year-old.

Whilst we definitely want midfield reinforcements, we want the right players to help us in that area and if we think Caicedo is the right option, then we must go all out for him in the winter window.
