Liverpool transfer target Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa still on Juventus’ radar
In a blow to Liverpool, Calciomercato have claimed (h/t Birmingham Mail) that Aston Villa’s 24-year-old midfielder Douglas Luiz is still on the radar of Italian giants Juventus after the Turin club botched their opportunity to sign the midfielder in the summer window.
The Brazilian defensive midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Villa Park, and talks of a contract extension have not begun yet. Having said that, it could have been The Villans’ last chance of cashing in on the player rather than losing an integral player for free.
Juventus’ manager Massimiliano Allegri is apparently a “big admirer” of the player, and they are giving thought to a move for the midfielder. I Bianconeri, earlier in the window, let go of Arthur Melo on loan to Liverpool and signed Leonardo Paredes on a temporary basis from PSG.
Luiz and Liverpool
AS Roma are also ‘trailing‘ the midfielder amid his links to Liverpool. The Reds could do with the services of Luiz in their midfield.
It has been a long time since the Reds made a statement midfield signing. Georginio Wijnaldum left the club in 2020 and Liverpool have struggled to replace the Dutchman. A proven Premier League midfielder in Luiz could help the Reds’ cause.
With the former Manchester City midfielder also linked with Arsenal and Chelsea, any club interested in securing his services would have a tough time negotiating a deal given the amount of competition.
Liverpool though, have maintained a staunch interest in the player for a very long time. The midfielder’s versatility to play any of the roles in the middle of the park plus set-piece skill could be something the Reds can work around.
