Harvey Elliott hopes Liverpool can build on from Ajax win and beat Brighton & Hove Albion

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott is optimistic about the Red getting a result against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. The Seagulls visit Anfield after the international break.

The Merseysiders last played against Ajax in the second match of the group stage in the Champions League. It was a nail-biting affair for Reds fans as Joel Matip scored in the final minutes to give Jurgen Klopp’s team a 2-1 victory.

Speaking to the club’s official website (h/t The Daily Mail), Elliott is hopeful of getting back on track in the league. And the 19-year-old claims the squad is in a buoyant mood ahead of the Brighton fixture.

“To win before an international break, it’s brought us to training this week in high spirits and in high hopes and hopefully we can push on from that win.

“To play at home is always a massive help so hopefully we can get the result and give the fans what they want and build from the Ajax game.”

Liverpool currently sit in eighth place in the PL table, having played six games. Fans last saw the team compete in the Merseyside derby. At Goodison Park against Everton, the Reds were unable to take three points as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

Klopp’s side have not been at their best in the 2022/23 campaign. Liverpool did not have the best start to the season, with the first two games ending up in a stalemate. Manchester United then inflicted a 2-1 defeat on us at Old Trafford.

The 9-0 win over Bournemouth was an encouraging sign for supporters. And we followed it up by defeating Newcastle 2-1. However, Jordan Pickford’s impressive performance denied us the three points against the Toffees.

Since then, Liverpool have not been in action in the English top flight. Our games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea were postponed. Now, the Reds face the Seagulls after a long break.

Elliott has been a key member of the squad in the current campaign. With the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita having been sidelined in certain periods, the 19-year-old has come into the side and has not looked out of place.

Hopefully, Elliott is able to continue his fine run in the team. However, whether the England U21 international starts for us against Brighton remains to be seen.
