Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson joins the 200 appearances club in the 3-0 win over Ajax

The game against Ajax Amsterdam marked a special occasion for one of the integral members of our squad, goalkeeper Alisson Becker. The Brazilian completed a milestone and reached 200 appearances for the club since making his switch from AS Roma for £67m in 2018.

With a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool needed a convincing performance in the UEFA Champions League game against Ajax to gain some momentum ahead of the congestion of fixtures before the FIFA World Cup.

The players responded with a brilliant performance and a 3-0 win over Ajax giving an example of how effective the team can still be on its day.

In a dismal start to the season, there has been one ray of light shining brighter than the rest. That was of Liverpool no.1, Alisson, who has time and time again acted as a defiant last line of defence.

If not for the Brazilian, we would have conceded way more goals than we actually did. He is instrumental in his ability to play from the back and his sweeping skills are also a big reason that we can afford to play with such a high line.

Alisson, along with Virgil van Dijk and Mohammed Salah should be regarded as among the greatest signings in our Premier League era. The trio among others played a key role in the club’s emergence as a domestic and European powerhouse.

Alisson is extremely crucial to our set-up and is without a doubt among the top players in his position in world football. One could argue that the Brazilian could go on to become the greatest goalkeeper to don the famous red jersey.

Let us all be hopeful that the milestone of 200 games is just the beginning of a wonderful and long career for the shot-stopper at Anfield. A treasured asset, he lays the foundations for the club to go on and win several more trophies.
