Brighton name huge Moises Caicedo price tag to fend off Liverpool and Manchester United transfer interest
Manchester United and Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo. According to the Mirror (h/t the Express), they would have to pay a premium price tag if they want to sign him in the January transfer window.
The Reds’ desperation for world-class quality in midfield is evident. Apart from Thiago Alcantara, no midfielder has looked fit to don this club’s prestigious jersey this season.
Even the Spain international hasn’t been a regular presence in the starting XI due to fitness issues. The likes of Jordan Henderson and James Milner arguably offer next to nothing on the pitch when the team is attacking while Fabinho Tavares has been woeful as a defensive midfielder this season.
Harvey Elliot, Curtis Jones, and Fabio Carvalho, as young and attack-minded as they are, understandably haven’t developed the defensive maturity needed to play as a central midfielder for a European superclub.
What next for Liverpool and Caicedo?
Hence, our apparent interest in Caicedo comes as no surprise. The Ecuador international joined Brighton in January 2021 and has exploded onto the scene this season.
He has one goal in 12 games across all competitions this campaign and was a starring presence for the Seagulls in a 3-3 league draw against Liverpool earlier this campaign. Brighton have apparently set a price tag of £85million ahead of the January transfer window.
They want to keep the midfielder at the Amex beyond the winter window. Caicedo’s defensive maturity is immense and it is clear that he has what it takes to become a future superstar.
