Liverpool keeping tabs on Arsenal and Newcastle United target Seko Fofana
According to French journalist Ignazio Genuardi (h/t Liverpool Echo), Premier League giants Liverpool look set to battle Arsenal and Newcastle United for Lens star Seko Fofana.
The 27-year-old spent three years at Manchester City from 2013-16 and is today among the best players in his position in Ligue 1. A central midfielder, Genuardi can play both offensive and defensive roles and is a handful to deal with in the middle of the park.
A good dribbler, Fofana is also a decent shooter of the ball and is capable of finding the net from distance. He has scored 14 goals and assisted eight more in 85 games for Lens across all competitions.
Fofana’s performances have caught the attention of several clubs in England including Newcastle United and Arsenal. The player for his part is keen to stay put and does not appear to nurse a desire to cross the channel.
Liverpool continue to be interested and are following developments regarding his future at Lens closely. Whether the Reds are planning to make a move for the 27-year-old in the January or summer windows of 2023 remains unclear.
It is no secret that the Liverpool midfield is in dire need of reinforcements. The roster they have at the moment is both ageing and injury prone, making it a key vulnerability on the pitch.
More so, the likes of Fabinho are woefully out of form compounding the club’s problems. While one can argue that Fofana has shown little to suggest he can meet expectations in Red, he nevertheless appears to have caught the club’s eye.

The Reds certainly need more than one midfielder and cannot afford to chomp off a bit on quality. Fofana is at best, a short-term option and from what we have seen so far, lacks the ability to become a mainstay for a side aiming for the top. Jurgen Klopp and co are better off looking elsewhere.
