Liverpool to battle Manchester United for Borussia Dortmund starlet Youssoufa Moukoko
According to German outlet Sport Bild (h/t Manchester Evening News), Liverpool will face competition from arch-rivals Manchester United for Youssoufa Moukoko.
The youngster has been a revelation for Borussia Dortmund this season and is garnering a fine fan following with his performances. He broke into Dortmund’s first team last season and has taken his performances up a notch this campaign. In 21 appearances this season, the 17-year-old has six goals and six assists to his name across all competitions.
Both Liverpool and Man United are keeping tabs on his progress and could ramp up their efforts ahead of the January transfer window. Both clubs are in the midst of a rebuild and landing the striker will future-proof their attack.
The teenager has been selected for Germany’s 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this month. He now has an opportunity to impress his potential suitors at the grandest stage of them all.
Good on the ball and excellent in the box, Moukoko has the raw minerals needed to become a key player for the Reds in the years to come. Jurgen Klopp has a track record of improving youth talents and the Cameroonian-born starlet could prove to be his biggest success yet.
Moukoko is not the only Dortmund starlet on Liverpool’s radar. Star midfielder Jude Bellingham is another player on the Reds’ wishlist and appears to be leading the race for his signature.
Landing both players would be a massive shot in the arm for a Reds’ side keen to rebuild their ageing roster. Whether FSG will sanction such a deal should they continue to stay on as owners remains to be seen.
Liverpool have focussed on bringing in youth of late, adding Calvin Ramsey, Fabio Carvalho and Darwin Nunez to their roster. Bringing in Mouko will add to the options available for Klopp in what should be his second great Liverpool side.

With the club’s ownership now up for grabs, it will be interesting to see what happens – if any potential new owner comes in and shows enthusiasm in the transfer market as was the case with Todd Boehly and co. at Chelsea, or if they are frugal and conscious of their investments.
