Liverpool to battle Bayern Munich and Juventus for Real Madrid star Marco Asensio
According to The Mirror via Express, Liverpool will face tough competition from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Serie A’s Juventus in their pursuit of out-of-favour Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
The 26-year-old has been one of the top transfer targets for the Reds and has been on Liverpool’s radar since the previous summer. The duo of Bayern and Juve have entered the race for him fairly late compared to the Reds.
However, the fact that he runs out of contract next summer (Transfermarkt) might be a factor why a number of teams have jumped in for the former Mallorca man. Versatility is one of the player’s core strengths and could be one of the reasons why the Reds are showing so much interest in him.
The player’s agent spoke not so long ago and informed the press that Liverpool seems like a realistic option for Asensio after contract talks with Real Madrid have not progressed further. Carlo Ancelotti himself said that negotiations for a new deal will only begin post the World Cup.
Marco at Merseyside?
Asensio has been a mainstay at Real Madrid since 2016 but has fallen down the pecking order in the last few seasons after the emergence of Federico Valverde and Vincius Jr. Hence, a move elsewhere in his prime playing days is something which could work best for him.
Liverpool certainly need someone like Asensio, a versatile midfielder who can play multiple roles and have an injury-free record. In 250 appearances across all competitions for Los Blancos, he has 52 goals and 27 assists, which tells that he could at times be a goal threat as well.
Currently on national duty for Spain in the World Cup, Asensio has been a key member of Luis Enrique’s squad. He will hope to bring glory to his country at the end of the event. He could prove to be a great asset for the Reds, given the injury frequency at the club which needs no introduction.

Moreover, Asensio also has the option of negotiating a pre-contract deal with other European clubs from January 1 in case he decides not to extend his deal at the Santiago Bernabeu. There is a possibility that negotiating an extension of the contract after the World Cup will be too late for the club.
