Fiorentina chief Daniele Prade “happy” with Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat amidst interest from Liverpool

Daniele Prade, the sporting director of Fiorentina, is “happy” with Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat amidst interest from Liverpool. The Reds are eyeing the 26-year-old to bolster their engine room.

The midfielder was also linked with a move to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the winter and summer transfer windows of 2022. Antonio Conte was keen on bringing the African to England.

Amrabat’s performances at the World Cup have caught a lot of people’s attention. However, speaking to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Prade expressed the Serie A outfit’s willingness to keep a hold of the Moroccan.

“We are very happy with Sofy. We keep him close.”

Walid Regragui’s team will face Spain in the round of 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday (6 December). The Atlas Lions enjoyed an impressive group-stage campaign in Qatar. Morocco pipped Croatia and Belgium to the top spot in Group F.

Amrabat was brilliant for his country, playing every minute of the first three fixtures at the prestigious tournament. The 26-year-old has also been in fine form for Fiorentina this season.

The Viola have been relatively decent in the current campaign. They currently sit 10th in the Serie A table. Vincenzo Italiano’s team have also qualified from the group stages of the Europa Conference League and will face Braga in the next round.

In the current campaign, Amrabat has made 20 appearances for Fiorentina in all competitions, primarily playing in the defensive midfield position. At Liverpool, Fabinho has been the first choice in the number six role for Jurgen Klopp for some time now.

While the Brazilian has not had the best of campaigns, he is still a quality player. In the 29-year-old’s absence, Jordan Henderson can fill the gap in the engine room.

However, what we seemingly lack is creativity in the middle of the park. Apart from Thiago Alcantara, none of our other options possess the world-class talent to break the lines. Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho have tried, but they are still young.

Thus, the Reds should focus on bringing in more creative players who are not injury-prone. For now, the Anfield side could do without the signing of Amrabat.
