Liverpool academy graduate Dominic Corness talks about studying Thiago Alcantara
Liverpool academy star Dominic Corness is a part of the 33-man squad for the mid-season training camp in Dubai, and so far has been pretty much involved in the thick of things happening in the Middle East.
Corness’ team-mates call the left-footed central midfielder ‘The Wand’ in the academy for his accuracy behind a static ball. Very recently, the player put pen to paper and committed his long-term future with the Reds.
Currently enjoying valuable minutes in and around the first-team, Corness pointed out midfield maestro Thiago as an inspiration and added that he tries to base his game off the Spaniard.
Here is what he told the club’s official website:
“I’m a midfielder, so all the midfielders here are exceptional. I really like Thiago, so I would try to base my game off him as much as I can. But it’s not just Thiago, it’s all the midfielders. Even then, all the players have got attributes that you want to take and try to put into your own game.”
With due respect to all other midfielders, Corness also added that he is trying to learn the best things from each midfielder so that his game becomes an amalgamation of the best attributes of the best players.
The 19-year-old across various age levels for Liverpool has 75 appearances in total, scoring five goals and adding another 12 assists to his name. From what it seems, Corness is one rare breed of a goal threat from midfield at Liverpool. Ever since Coutinho departed back in 2018, the number of goals from midfield has significantly diminished.
Learning Stage for Corness
The local lad has been part of the club since he was five, and hopefully, he can impress the gaffer and earn minutes with the first team in cup games. After that, it would just be about how Corness carries himself and the momentum into becoming a regular for the first team.
Jurgen Klopp does not shy away from giving youngsters a chance, and more often than not, he’s hit the bullseye. Examples include Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliott and more recently, Fabio Carvalho.
