Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in Villarreal CF winger Samuel Chukwueze
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in signing Villarreal CF’s enigmatic winger Samuel Chukwueze, with the player attracting interest from many clubs in Europe.
Arsenal are also claimed to be in the mix for the player but now Liverpool have entered the race and would provide competition to current Premier League leaders.
Chukwueze is a traditional left-footed right winger who likes to get inside and take on the opposition with his explosive pace and dribbling ability.
One of the main factors behind the interest in the player has been that his current contract at the Spanish club ends in June 2024 (Transfermarkt).
Thus, the summer transfer window provides an opportunity for top clubs to test Villarreal’s resilience who would not be keen to let the player leave on a free transfer if he does not extend his contract with the club.
Claims of Liverpool being interested in the player are mainly stemming out of Spain and it could be a ploy by his representatives to make the clubs act quicker towards a transfer.
Chukwueze prefers to play in a position occupied by Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah and unless he is willing to play second-fiddle to the Egyptian, the transfer does not make much sense.
Add to that the recent signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven and it does feel like we are pretty stacked up in our forward department once all key players return from injury.
Rather, the coming summer transfer window should be approached with a definitive mindset of improving our midfield which needs an urgent addition. We need a player that can contribute at both ends of the pitch, stays fit, and is of a good age profile.
