LFC Transfer News: Liverpool-linked striker Marcus Thuram set to join Bayern Munich

Liverpool transfer target Marcus Thuram is set to leave Borussia Monchengladbach to join Bayern Munich, as per a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The 25-year-old is likely to leave his current team to join the defending champions after representing France at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where his team made it all the way to the final of the competition.

It remains to be seen if the move will be for the winter or the summer. Bayern like to sign players on free transfers after signing pre-contract agreements with them, and Thuram is set to become a free agent this summer.

To be honest, this is a deal we do not need. The Frenchman is an elite forward in the prime years of his career. He is quick, deadly in front of goal, and very versatile.

No need for LFC to intercept

Thuram can play anywhere across the frontline. But we absolutely do not need to waste funds on a forward anymore. In fact, even Cody Gakpo’s arrival this January was a bit of a surprise given how much we need a midfielder.

We already have Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Harvey Elliott, and Fabio Carvalho up front. Diaz and Jota, of course, are yet to return from their respective injuries.

But there is absolutely no place to fit Gakpo in right now. It would be foolish to say that Thuram won’t make Liverpool an even more dangerous squad.

However, it would only create imbalance given the world-class names already on our wage books. Moreover, it would be a shock if Thuram was to move to Anfield given how much competition he would have had to face here.
