Liverpool are not just one of the most successful English clubs, they are also one of the best nursery beds for youngsters. True to this tradition, the Reds are looking to bolster their ranks with the signing of a talented English youngster.
The Reds are being linked with Wolverhampton Wanderers wonder kid Morgan Gibbs-White, who was one of the stars of the England Under-17 World Cup winning team.
According to a report in the IBTimes, Liverpool are leading the race to sign the youngster in a £5million deal. Manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to make a bid for the England Under-17 international when the winter transfer window reopens in January.
Should he do that, Klopp would beat competition from North London clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal for the signature of this youngster.
The Under-17 World Cup winner is contracted to the Wolves until 2019 but the Molineux outfit will not be able to offer fresh terms to the player before he turns 18 in January. Liverpool are ready to jump into the fray and take advantage of this situation.
Gibbs-White started three games for England in the Under-17 World Cup in India and found the net twice. That included a vital goal in the final which helped England defeat Spain 5-2.
The youngster has already featured for Wolves in the League Cup, the Championship, and the FA Cup, after joining the club at the age of 8. The teenager, who can play as an attacking midfielder or a striker, has indicated in the past that he can wait for opportunities at Wolves.
If he decides to join Liverpool, Gibbs-White will join his Under-17 national teammate Rhian Brewster at Anfield. The Liverpool youngster was one of the standout players for England in India.
Klopp and Anfield hierarchy have high hopes for Brewster, who is expected to graduate to the Under23s this season for Liverpool. He may even get some chances in the FA Cup.
So, will Morgan-Gibbs be the next in line to join the queue? Regardless of Liverpool’s interest, the player is content with his role at Wolves and could decide to stay back with them for a season or two before making a big move.
Nevertheless, Morgan-Gibbs is a great prospect to have on the radar!
