Tottenham Hotspur join the race for Liverpool target Marcus Thuram
Borussia Monchengladbach’s French striker, Marcus Thuram finds himself on Liverpool FC’s transfer list for the summer. The 25-year-old is a soon-to-be free agent in the summer and could join the Reds on a free transfer. Even though the Reds’ last links with the player were during the World Cup, he could soon become a realistic transfer for the club.
Alongside Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, the latest club in the race to land the player is Tottenham as per AS via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo). In 17 appearances across all competitions this season, the player has 10 goals and three assists.
His versatility and ability to play as a winger or a central forward make him an attractive target for many top clubs and Spurs are no different as well. From Liverpool’s perspective, the news of Tottenham’s interest in Thuram adds an extra layer of complexity to their speculated pursuit of the French international.
Thuram to the Reds?
From a Liverpool standpoint, following the acquisition of Cody Gakpo over the January transfer window means that there is no urgent necessity for the Reds to go behind another striker. Moreover, with news of a contract renewal for Roberto Firmino as well, the need for an additional striker further goes down.
As far as Spurs are concerned, with Harry Kane’s future at the club uncertain as it stands always, it is understandable that the Spurs hierarchy is looking to bring in a top-quality forward.
Even though the Reds’ links with the player are not the strongest, he could prove to be a good addition to the club given his style of play sits just perfectly with the Reds but as earlier said, the addition of another forward is unnecessary. Liverpool should rather focus on bringing on board a midfielder.

Thus, Spurs’ interest in Thuram shouldn’t be a major concern for the Reds. Instead, if we could channel all available funds towards getting on board a midfielder, it would be the most ideal of situations.
