Borussia Dortmund are ready to make Jude Bellingham the highest-paid player in the club’s history to fend off interest from Liverpool

According to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Borussia Dortmund are ready to make Liverpool target Jude Bellingham the highest-paid player in the club’s history to fend off interest from top clubs.

Liverpool have made Bellingham one of the top targets of the summer transfer window but it seems like Dortmund are keen to hold onto their prized asset for at least one more year.

Bellingham’s current contract expires in June 2025 and the Bundesliga outfit have offered him a new contract that could potentially make the England international the highest-paid player ever in Dortmund history.

Citing the example of Jadon Sancho’s early struggles at Manchester United, Dortmund are trying their best to persuade the player to stay for another year and could also include a generous release clause in his new contract.

“Dortmund ideally want Bellingham to stay in Germany for another season, and to facilitate that they would make him the highest paid player in their history if he signed a new deal.

One which would also include a generous release clause.”

This would be a blow to Jurgen Klopp and the recruitment team as all our hopes have practically been placed upon signing Bellingham at the forefront of our rebuild.

Fabrizio Romano believes Jude Bellingham remains the top Liverpool target among other midfielders.

On the other hand, losing out on a top-four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification could also play a part in Bellingham’s decision.

Somehow the lack of investment in midfield in the previous transfer windows is coming to bite us back with a possibility of us losing out on our primary targets.

With many top European teams interested in Bellingham’s signature, it certainly would not be an easy task to prise him away considering the parent club does not wish to sell him and we could possibly not finish in the top four.
