Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was full of praise towards the team after the Merseyside win over Everton

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson while speaking to Liverpool Echo was pleased with the team’s performance in the 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside Derby.

The Merseyside Derby is always an exciting and tough battle with both teams ready to go full throttle and Liverpool were the winner this time around thanks to two goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.

Henderson was brought back into the starting lineup and played a pivotal part in the victory. Post the match, he admitted the victory could turn out to be a catalyst for a good season-ender and hopefully a top-four finish.

“I thought the overall performance was top from start to finish.

We delivered. It doesn’t make up for the last few weeks in terms of our performances but it’s certainly a step in the right direction. It was more like us.”

Liverpool faces in-form Newcastle United next who are currently placed in fourth position in the league and is definitely one of the most crucial games of the season for us.

A win over Newcastle could bring back the much-needed confidence that the team needs and possibly could lead to a run of winning games.

There is an outside chance that we could still make the top four with so many points yet to be played and a good run is all that is needed to close the gap with the teams above us.

It was a good redemption game for Henderson as well who has been criticised throughout the season for being out of it and not performing to the standards required.

A midfield trio of Henderson, Fabinho and Stefan Bajcetic looked pretty solid and complimentary to the traits of each player and we could see the midfield return against Newcastle.

Newcastle will be without midfield maestro Bruno Guimaraes which would definitely provide an advantage for us.

It was nice to see the team return to winning ways after a long drought and hopefully, the run is continued when we visit St. James Park on the weekend.
