Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson happy to smash Manchester United but wants to back it up
Speaking to the club media, Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson was delighted to smash Manchester United but wants to back it up with results in the coming games.
Liverpool absolutely battered United 7-0 at Anfield to keep themselves fully in the hunt of finishing in the top four this season.
It is now four wins and one draw in the last five league games, with zero goals, conceded and 13 scored. Keeping these things in mind, that Real Madrid result looks like a mere blip.
While enjoying this win and dedicating it to the fans, Robertson knows the team has to back it up in the coming weeks. Here’s what he said (h/t Liverpool website):
“The season we’ve had, the fans have stuck with us and the fans have still sold out every away end, every home game at Anfield. They were enjoying it, and that’s what we like to see. We want the people that come here to enjoy it – and this season they probably haven’t as much.
“We play football, we work hard every week for moments like this. In the Premier League, you don’t often get games like this – it’s usually really tight and you have to push the whole way.
“We kept pushing but just with a wee bit of a spring in our step. But we have to keep going. We’ve got a massive game on Saturday and you have to back it up. It’s pointless getting these results and not being able to back it up.”
The Scotsman, who was one of the best players on the field on Sunday, has hit the nail on with these comments. Irrespective of indifferent performances this season, Liverpool fans have backed the team and the manager. Their anger has mostly pointed towards the inept owners.
It is also right to back results like these up with wins in the coming games. In league terms, the next fixture away at Bournemouth is very important. While the Cherries lost against Arsenal, they showed that no one can take them lightly.
After the trip to the south coast comes the second leg of the Champions League tie against Real Madrid. Although Liverpool are three goals behind in that, they can at least make it tough for the European champions at the Bernabeu.
