Divock Origi says he is open to the idea of a permanent move away from Liverpool. The striker is currently on a season-long loan at Wolfsburg, where he has scored 4 goals in 15 appearances. The Bundesliga outfit are interested in signing the Belgian international permanently, although Liverpool are likely to demand a considerable fee to part ways with the 22-year-old.
Origi will have just one year left on his contract with Liverpool in the summer and has revealed he hasn’t been in contact with manager Jurgen Klopp since leaving the club earlier in the season.
A return to Liverpool for Origi would likely mean a backup role to the front three of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
Speaking to reporters in Germany, the former Lille player admitted his future is far from certain but suggests he will wait until the end of the season before making a final decision.
“I take that as a compliment that the club rates me. Several factors play a role. I am someone who is enjoying the moment,” Origi told German website Sport Buzzer.
“I think everything’s possible. I focus on the here and now. I have a good relationship with Liverpool, but feel really well here at Wolfsburg.
“We’ll sit down at the end of the season, and talk we’ll see what’s next. Right now, I am here for another six months, and I am open for everything.”
Origi, who signed for Liverpool after the 2014 World Cup before returning to Lille on a season-long loan, has scored 21 goals in his 76 appearances as a Liverpool player in all competitions. The striker’s contract on Merseyside is set to expire in 2019, leaving Liverpool in a position where they might have to cash in on their player this summer.
Mario Gomez’s return to Stuttgart may well give Origi more opportunities to play as a centre-forward.
“I have always said that I prefer playing as a No. 9. I am just more productive in the centre of attack,” he added.
As Origi is in the last 18 months of his Liverpool contract, it looks like we might have to see him leave our club at the end of the season. And with the abundance of attacking talent that we have, I doubt Origi will get a chance at Liverpool next season.
