Inter Milan have expressed an interest in Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge, according to reports. Sturridge joined Liverpool from Chelsea in January 2013 but his spell on Merseyside has been blighted by a succession of injuries.
The 28-year-old has featured only 9 times in the Premier League this season, with manager Jurgen Klopp preferring to play Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the attack.
Inter have spoken with the representatives of Liverpool and during these talks, the Merseyside club expressed their acceptance to allowing Sturridge to join the Nerazzurri on a loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent, according to Sky Sports Italia (h/t Calcio Mercato).
The Italian outfit are prepared to pay a loan fee – but it remains to be seen if they want Sturridge to consider a permanent transfer. Manager Jurgen Klopp seems fine with keeping him but Liverpool could be tempted by an offer in the region of £30m.
The report adds that the England striker is not a priority for Inter but is more seen as a possible opportunity to sign a backup to Eder and Mauro Icardi. Sturridge has not played recently due to an injury. His Anfield career has often been interrupted by periods of rehabilitation. At the moment, he is only a backup and he wants to leave due to the lack of opportunities.
The former Manchester City striker knows that his chances of going to the World Cup are very slim unless he can get regular football between now and the end of the season. If he gets ample chances from now on and succeeds in impressing England manager Gareth Southgate, there could be an outside chance for the 28-year-old to make it to Russia in the summer.
For making into Southgate’s plans, Sturridge is very much open to the idea of a change in environment to boost his chances of selection. Klopp previously stated that Sturridge would need to put aside his concerns over a lack of first-team action for the good of the club.
“I can imagine a player with his quality is not happy that he is not starting all the time, but that’s all,” said Klopp.
The Telegraph reports that Sevilla tried to sign the 28-year-old on loan – a move that has been rebuffed by the Merseyside club. It remains to be seen what happens until 31st of January. Sturridge is keen on a move but the first and foremost thing for him would be to stay fit.
