Mason Mount remains a primary target for Liverpool with the player valued at £80m
Simon Jones of Mail Sport reports that Mason Mount remains a primary target for Liverpool with the player now valued at £80m.
Mount’s contract expires at Chelsea next summer, but him not extending his deal at Stamford Bridge yet would come as a boost to his suitors. A few days ago, it was claimed that the England international is valued at around £70m, but that can be negotiated down because a lot of Premier League clubs are interested in buying him this summer.
German champions Bayern Munich are also keeping an eye on the 24-year-old, who played under their manager Thomas Tuchel, former Chelsea boss. But, the Bavaria club would be looking to sign him for free next summer if he stays in west London despite not signing a new contract.
What this report does is tell us that it might not be that easy for Liverpool to get Mount, given the price tag quoted.
The Reds pulled out of the Jude Bellingham because they did not want big money on one player and spread the cash on various signings. Not that £80m is in the Bellingham price range, but is Mount worth that much?
The answer to that will only be known by Jurgen Klopp and his staff. We know the Reds need midfielders, but spending that kind of money on one, especially the one who hasn’t been in the target books for two years might be ill-fated.
Mount is a fantastic player and it is clear that the club wants to sign him. The best way would be to make this a negotiating auction and hope that the player pushes for a move rather than extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.
