Liverpool challenge Juventus for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners
Serie A giants Juventus will have to battle Liverpool to acquire the services of Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners, according to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo).
As things stand, the Reds have the Netherlands international on their radar ahead of next summer. However, the Old Lady are also interested in getting a hold of the midfielder’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.
But the Bianconeri face a tough challenge from the Anfield side in their pursuit of the 25-year-old. The Merseyside outfit are ‘the biggest obstacle’ in the Italian outfit’s bid to sign the Dutch national.
Liverpool have already ‘taken the first steps‘ in the race for Koopmeiners. However, Cristiano Giuntoli, who is expected to be appointed the sporting director of Juventus after a successful spell at Napoli, wants the Old Lady to add the Netherlands international to their ranks.
At the moment, the midfielder is tied down to Atalanta until June 2025. La Dea will want over €35–40 million to part ways with the 25-year-old next summer.
Koopmeiners signed for the Bergamo-based club in the summer of 2021. Since then, the Dutch national has been a key player for Gian Piero Gasperini’s team, commanding the engine room.
Liverpool’s midfield is set for a massive overhaul in the coming months, with the contracts of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to expire (transfermarkt). Arthur Melo is also expected to return to Juventus.
Fabinho has looked a shadow of his former self this season. The Brazilian has been unable to stabilise our engine room. His performances in the number six position have left a lot to be desired.
The Old Lady have an abundance of talent in the middle of the park. Allegri has the likes of Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot, and Paul Pogba at his disposal.
