Liverpool are linked with Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven
As per a report in Inews (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are linked with a move for Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven during the summer transfer window.
The report also claims that soon-to-be transfer consultant Jorg Schmadtke may lure the 22-year-old to move to Anfield. Schmadtke is the former Wolfsburg director having worked there till January of this year.
De Ven arrived from Dutch club Volendam back in August 2021 and has been one of their regular starters. He is an excellent left-footed centre-back who can operate as a left-back too.
The 22-year-old has captained the Netherlands U21 side and is yet to make an appearance for the senior national team.
With regard to his attributes, the young Dutch defender is good at passing, reading the game and blocking shots. He has possessed a pass accuracy rate of 88.5% in the league this season, matched up with 1.4 tackles and 3.2 clearances per game (Whoscored). He has a good recovery pace as well.
With Andrew Robertson showing signs of a dip in performance levels at the age of 29 and Kostas Tsimikas not showing enough to usurp the Scotsman, there could be a case for Liverpool to sign a young left-sided defender.
With the new system where Trent Alexander-Arnold tucks into midfield, the left-back might have to play more as a left-sided centre-back. Having played as a centre-back and left-back before, De Ven can do a good job partnered with his Dutch senior Virgil van Dijk.
All the things about the player seem positive. The prospect of Schmadtke doing the work to get the 22-year-old at Anfield is there too.
