Liverpool Ladies progressed to the quarterfinals of the Women’s FA Cup with a 3-0 win at Chichester City Ladies on Sunday. They will now host Chelsea Ladies in the quarterfinals of the SSE Women’s FA Cup, the club’s official website confirmed.
The tie is scheduled to be played on Sunday, March 18, after Liverpool Ladies made light work of Chichester City Ladies in their victory.
The Reds Ladies had suffered embarrassing back to back league defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City respectively. They had a chance to bounce back against Chichester Ladies and they grabbed it with both hands. January signing Rinsola Babajide scored on her first start for the club before Ashley Hodson made it 2-0 to the visitors. From there, it was a walk in the park for the Liverpool Ladies.
Just two minutes after the restart, Bethany England made it 3-0 after Caroline Weir’s initial effort was saved. The Ladies were honestly unlucky not to add more to the scoresheet in the second half, as Kate Longhurst hit just off target on two different occasions and Ali Johnson’s free-kick sailed just over the bar.
Scott Rogers and his Ladies team will now be wary of Chelsea Ladies’ threat after successfully negotiating Chichester. It was a fantastic but one-sided contest at Chichester. The 3-0 win in the FA Cup on Sunday has seen the Liverpool Ladies’ run in the competition continue, with Chelsea their next opponent in the quarterfinals.
The win on Sunday came at a very good time as the Liverpool Ladies flexed their muscles ahead of their next outing in the league against Sunderland Ladies at the Select Security Stadium on Wednesday.
