Liverpool hold talks with Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga and his reps
Fabrizio Romano reveals that Liverpool ‘hold talks’ with the representatives of Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga over a potential transfer for the 21-year-old.
Speaking on his Here We Go Podcast, Romano spoke of Liverpool leading the race to sign Veiga and also claimed that the reports of a done deal with Newcastle United are false. While there remains no official agreement yet, it’s clear that the club is actively exploring the possibility of bringing Veiga to Anfield.
His presence in the Liverpool midfield would undoubtedly add depth and quality to the squad. His performances for Celta Vigo have showcased his technical prowess, intelligent positioning, and ability to dictate play from the centre of the park as he is very good at playing through balls.
Although we have a lot of young players on our radar and that is extremely positive as well, we surely need a few names who are established stars and can bring in immediate change.
Is Veiga the right choice?
Even though youngsters like Veiga show immense amounts of potential, they are surely not the players who one would trust to take a team going through as big a transition as Liverpool are at the moment.
The departure of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita surely leaves a void that could prove to be too big for young talents to fill. Rather have young players, alongside a few proven names who can create instant impact at Liverpool.
Having said that, it surely doesn’t mean we forego our culture of developing capable talents into world-class players. But things would make sense if we see ourselves linked with a few proven names as well.
That certainly doesn’t take anything away from the talent Veiga possesses and hopefully, he could join the Reds and bring about a sense of positive change in our midfield scenario along with other players.
