Liverpool enter the race alongside Newcastle and Arsenal for Samuel Chukwueze

The need for a right-winger at Liverpool to back Mohamed Salah up is surely real, and to address that requirement, the Reds have entered the race to sign Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze.

Arsenal and Newcastle give the Reds a sense of company in their own bids to get Chukwueze on board from Villarreal. The 24-year-old Nigerian international could surely be a quality addition to the squad.

Fichajes via liverpool.com claim that these three Premier League teams show interest in securing the player’s services even though, as of now, there remain no offers yet from either party.

In 50 appearances across all competitions this season, Chukwueze has 13 goals and 11 assists to his name and has been in fantastic form for The Yellow Submarine. His form has given rise to speculation of an exit from the La Liga outfit over the summer.

Chukwueze made an appearance against Liverpool in the first leg of the semi-final of the 2022 UEFA Champions League at Anfield but failed to have an impact.

Liverpool do not have a proper right-winger to provide backup for Mohamed Salah. Although Harvey Elliott is capable of playing down the right flank, he doesn’t have the pace to match up Premier League full-backs.

Even though Mo shows absolutely no signs of decline, with age, that is bound to happen. So we cannot totally rely on him for our attacking output and it would be wise to have backups in place.

While youth options include the likes of Ben Doak among others, it would not be fair to promote him to the senior team full-time and expect what Salah does from Doak.

Hence, it is best to take time with the academy players to ensure proper development. Getting on board a youngster like Chukwueze would surely give rise to a sense of healthy competition in the squad for the future.
