Liverpool show interest in Real Betis starlet Assane Diao

Real Betis’ 17-year-old left-winger Assane Diao is apparently of interest to Liverpool and RB Leipzig.

That is according to AS (translated by Sport Witness) [h/t liverpool.com]. The U19 Spain international has a contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt) at Manuel Pellegrini’s side as the Reds hope to secure his services to strengthen their age group side.

Real Betis is reportedly concerned about the prospect of losing Diao, who primarily operates on the left flank. The young forward showcased his abilities by scoring four goals and providing two assists for the club’s reserve team in 20 appearances last season, highlighting his potential and attracting attention from top clubs.

Liverpool fans can remain hopeful that the club’s interest in Diao will materialize into a successful transfer. Should the young forward choose to join the Reds, it will be an exciting addition to the squad and another step forward in Liverpool’s ongoing pursuit of success.

Diao to the Reds?

As Liverpool vies with RB Leipzig for Diao’s services, negotiations and discussions are likely to intensify. The club’s history of nurturing young talents and providing them with a platform to thrive will undoubtedly be an appealing prospect for the Spanish forward.

Stefan Bajcetic is among those who made the switch from the reserve team of a La Liga squad to the Reds and has been impressive for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Diao could surely be the next to follow.

While it is tough to see him anywhere near the first-team setup in case he makes the move, it is only because Liverpool have a plethora of options on the left wing.

Literally, all of our forwards bar Mohamed Salah started out on the left wing. The likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo have it all that takes to excel on the left flank. That could prove to be great for Diao as he would have so many players to learn from.
