Liverpool send a contract offer to Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure

As per a tweet from French outlet Sports Zone, Liverpool have sent a contract offer to Crystal Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure in the hope of making this deal happen.

It is further revealed that the Reds are looking to sign a number six before the end of this window on Friday night, and Doucoure is one of the options.

The Independent reported that while Liverpool remain interested in the Mali international, the price tag put up by Palace is an obstacle. Different reports have mentioned different prices.

Doucoure was named as Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year for the 2022/23 season, his first in Palace colours since arriving from RC Lens last summer.

The 23-year-old is a defensive midfielder who can operate in a double pivot if needed. He is excellent at reading the game and stopping opposition attacks.

Although Liverpool signed Wataru Endo from Stuttgart to fill the gap in defensive midfield, they need another player there before the end of this window.

The reliance on the Japanese international and young Stefan Bajcetic to do a job there would be too risky.

Hence, getting Doucoure is of paramount importance. A signing like that could propel this squad to challenge for the league title this season alongside Manchester City and Arsenal.

Though we knew this before the season started, but the game against Newcastle United showed how much depth Jurgen Klopp has at his disposal in the forward line.

If he gets similar depth in the midfield department, they would be stacked enough to go deep in the title race and possibly pip City.

An interesting few days remain for the club to make the right decisions. Leaving the squad short would be uncalled for.
