Liverpool could land Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella next summer
The Reds’ pursuit of Inter Milan’s midfield maestro Nicolo Barella hit a brick wall earlier this summer, with the Italian club deeming him “untouchable” for any club, inclusive of Liverpool.
However, recent reports from CaughtOffside via ECHO suggest that the Reds might get another chance at signing him next year, and it could come at a price of around £77m. The chase for Barella was highly competitive during the summer transfer window, with Chelsea and Newcastle United also vying for his signature. However, Inter Milan stood firm in their stance, refusing to part ways with their prized midfielder.
But the landscape might shift in 2024, and Liverpool could find themselves in a more favourable position. Reports indicate that Inter Milan might be more open to negotiations next year, potentially creating an opportunity for Liverpool to secure Barella’s services. His deal with the Serie A giants expires in 2026 (Transfermarkt).
Nicolo Barella is widely regarded as one of the brightest midfield talents in European football. His combination of technical skill, tactical awareness, and relentless work rate make him an attractive proposition for any top club, including Liverpool.
Barella to the Reds?
The 24-year-old Italian has already showcased his abilities in top competitions, including the UEFA Champions League and Serie A, and has been a consistent performer for both Inter Milan and the Italian national team.
However, the situation since the last time Liverpool were in the market for Barella have changed drastically. The Reds have gone on to sign Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch. While Barella’s technical ability is second to absolutely none, Liverpool securing his services would mean that the existing quartet of our midfield signings alongside others like Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones might have to struggle for game-time.

The prospect of Barella joining Liverpool is sure to generate excitement among fans, but only time will tell whether or not the Reds will pursue this opportunity next year. The ever-changing landscape of football transfers means that decisions will be made with careful consideration of various factors, including the team’s needs and financial constraints.
