Jurgen Klopp feels Liverpool FC’s draw is justified following disappointing display versus Luton
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted his side did not deserve more than the 1-1 draw they were held to by Luton Town on Sunday.
The Reds dominated possession at Kenilworth Road but struggled to break down the resolute Hatters. Speaking after the game, Klopp told Sky Sports (h/t BBC) that he felt the stalemate was a fair outcome given Liverpool’s profligacy.
“Credit to Luton and how they defended and how they set up but it was mainly up to us. We had a lot of chances and should have had much more.”
Klopp gave Luton huge credit for their disciplined defending and organisation without the ball. But he was frustrated with Liverpool’s inability to capitalise on their constant pressure and openings crafted.
“Looking at the game I think we didn’t deserve more than a point. We could have won the game with the chances we had but now looking at it I think we deserved a point.”
The visitors managed 24 shots but only hit the target six times, highlighting their lack of composure and precision. Klopp will know Liverpool must be far more clinical to maintain their Premier League title pursuit. We are currently in the third spot and have every right to be angry at dropping cheap points.
Despite enjoying nearly 75% of the ball, Liverpool’s finishing was sub-par as Luton’s resistance paid off. In the end, coming from behind with Luis Diaz in the 95th minute to claim just a point left Klopp to accept that his side were unworthy of the win on the night.
This was the 1st match for Luis Diaz after his return from Columbia where he went following his father’s kidnap by rebels. After scoring the equaliser he displayed no delight and lifted his jersey to reveal a white undertop with words printed on it: “Libertad Para Papa” (Freedom For Dad)
Fortunately, the guerilla group have released a statement saying that they will release Diaz’s father ‘as soon as possible’. Hopefully, the crisis will reach a happy conclusion soon.

Klopp’s honest assessment will hopefully serve as a wake-up call in terms of Liverpool rediscovering their ruthless streak. The German will drill home the need for increased sharpness in the final third after a hugely frustrating afternoon. His team controlled proceedings for long spells but failed to translate that into clear-cut opportunities when it truly counted.
