Nabil Fekir has come out and stated that he is not close to joining Liverpool after numerous rumours had linked the Lyon forward with a €70m move to Merseyside.
The 24-year-old was in exceptional form for the Ligue 1 club as he helped them make it to the Champions League spots and has been linked with a big-money move away from the French giants.
The forward scored 18 times in the league and chipped in with eight assists and many reports even suggested that we had finalised a fee and a deal to bring in the Frenchman.
However, Fekir was speaking to TF1’s Telefoot programme (h/t Express) and also added that he is speaking to a number of other clubs.
“I’m not close to the Reds.
“There are discussions with several clubs, but we will take the time to think.”
This probably does not rule out a move to us as something similar happened with Van Dijk too. The Dutchman did join us ultimately in the winter window but we could not sign him in the summer as we even apologised to Southampton for our conduct.
What is important for Jurgen Klopp would be to seek out our targets early on and not wait until the final days of the window to bring in players.
That has been a hallmark during Klopp’s era as we have always signed players beforehand and hopefully, there will be a number of additions to our side before the start of next season.
Fekir would be a great signing for our side given that we need more attack-minded players and his style of play would work great under Klopp.
The Frenchman can play in a number of positions and that will be an added bonus if we do get him for the right price. Having Fekir playing alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio would be fantastic.
Fekir has a big decision ahead of next season and Liverpool fans will wish and pray that his decision sees him turn up for the Reds.
