Liverpool squad update as they gear up to face Norwich City in the FA Cup

Providing an injury update on the squad, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had positive vibes to give away as he mentioned the possibility of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Dominik Szoboszlai, all potentially returning to action in our FA Cup encounter against Norwich City at Anfield on Sunday, 28th January.

The trio’s status for the clash with Norwich remains uncertain, with Klopp expressing cautious optimism. Robertson, who made a return to the bench in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Fulham, stands on the verge of a comeback after seeing himself sidelined with a shoulder issue since October. Klopp notes that Robertson is “physically ready” and has seamlessly integrated into the team training schedule, surely making him a viable option for the upcoming fixture.

Szoboszlai, dealing with a hamstring concern, is progressing positively. Klopp outlines the Hungarian’s training regimen, indicating that he had a session on Wednesday, a day off on Thursday, and remains all set to resume full team training from Friday. This development certainly signals Szobo‘s readiness for potential playing minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are two of Liverpool’s most creative players.

Here is what the manager told the club’s official website, providing an injury update on the trio:

“There’s a chance for all of them but we will really have to see. It’s touch and go.”

“Robbo is physically ready and I think it was good to have him in the matchday squad, and he’s completely in the normal team training schedule.”

“Like Dom from tomorrow on. He had yesterday a session, today I think he has a day off as well and then from tomorrow on he is in completely normal. That means he is obviously ready for minutes.”

“With Trent, is it already Norwich or is it the game after? We have to see. He was not in team training, not even parts of team training yet, so if he can be in tomorrow then I have to make a decision there. That’s it pretty much with these boys.”

Good news!

Trent‘s status remains a bit more uncertain. Klopp hints at the possibility of Alexander-Arnold featuring in the clash with Norwich or potentially the game thereafter. However, Klopp emphasizes that Alexander-Arnold has not participated in team training or its components yet. The final decision hinges on Alexander-Arnold’s availability for training tomorrow.

Klopp’s use of “touch and go” sumps up the delicacy of the situation, underscoring the fine line between player readiness and the imperative for caution. The manager acknowledges that these crucial decisions will be made based on the players’ responses to training and their overall fitness levels.

Andy Robertson recently returned to a Liverpool matchday squad as the Reds faced Fulham in the EFL Cup SF second-leg.

The impending return of these key players injects a dose of optimism into Liverpool’s camp. Robertson’s experience and defensive solidity, Szoboszlai’s creative prowess, and Alexander-Arnold’s dynamic contributions from the right flank make them integral components of Klopp’s tactical setup.
