Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta humbly admits that his team are far behind Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp
Mikel Arteta admitted that his Arsenal stint need trophies to get close to what Jurgen Klopp achieved with Liverpool. Liverpool, with high stakes involved, are gearing up to face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in the upcoming Premier League clash.
Victory for either team would be a massive boost alongside six points tilt in one direction for the title chase. Meanwhile, a draw would favour Manchester City who have earned a reputation in recent years for their late title charge.
Liverpool cannot afford any slip-ups at this time if they want to keep pushing for the Premier League title. Only Klopp managed to achieve a Premier League trophy amid thorough domination by City in the past five years.
The 115 financial breach charges that Manchester City is challenging taint their monopoly in domestic competition. Despite the daunting obstacles and limited financial resources, Klopp managed to win every trophy barring the Europa League.
Speaking to the reporters (h/t Daily Star) before the Liverpool clash, Arteta emphasised the need of winning trophies. He said:
“The demands are bigger – and they have to be. Now that has to be that we win big trophies – and win major trophies consistently to be at the very top. In order to do that, everyone has to have the same intentions. It just doesn’t happen. That’s the next step. Liverpool have done it. We haven’t.”
Since joining Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta has spent over €688mil. In the transfer market to bolster his team. The Spaniard inherited the squad that possessed Bukayo Saka, Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Meanwhile, Klopp has spent €938.5mil. since joining the Reds in 2015, inheriting a mediocre squad from Brendan Rodgers. The German worked under the condition that he had to sell before buying any player with the transfer earnings.

The Reds used shrewd negotiation and transfer business to get quality players at a decent price. Klopp announced his decision to step back from the managerial post at the end of the season, citing feelings of burnout.
He is leaving his successor a squad that is far stronger than the one that he inherited. While trophies are important as Arteta mentioned, winning things the right way and building prosperous continuity are equally important.
